Description
December 1901, St. John’s, Newfoundland.
Peter feels restless. He longs to see the world and have great adventures, but for now he’ll have to settle for sending letters to famous scientists, hoping one day he’ll hear back about their experiments. When Peter learns that an inventor is unloading crates of scientific equipment on nearby Signal Hill, it feels like a dream come true.
Peter and his best friend Maggie rush to Signal Hill where, over the next two days, they witness something extraordinary: The first transatlantic radio transmission, received by Guglielmo Marconi.
This invention will change the world in ways Peter and Maggie can’t even imagine. But when Marconi and his crew head home, will Peter be satisfied to return to the way things were?
In a story told with beautiful prose by celebrated author Laura Alary, with captivating watercolour illustrations by artist Thérèse Cilia, Peter will learn that no new invention or technology can replace having a real friend by your side.
Includes an Author’s Note about the impact Marconi’s experiment has had on communication across the world
