Description
Acclaimed storyteller Dan Yashinsky has told stories around the world. The Storyteller’s Ass brings together seven of his favourite folktales, learned from other tellers (including his Romanian Jewish mother) and gleaned from storytelling collections?all remixed with his singular wit and the added fun of a rather insistent donkey. The stories come from Italy, Iran, West Africa, Romania, and the Republic of Georgia, but Yashinsky has made them his own. The book grows out of a pandemic project when Yashinsky, and his donkey puppet Eysele, recorded several stories for his YouTube channel to counter the sense of isolation. Reworked and refined, these stories still extol the playful wisdom they offered in challenging times. They celebrate kindness, community, and of course, the value of a good ass.
The book features gorgeous illustrations by Egyptian-Canadian artist Sahar Abdallah, who appreciates donkeys as much as Yashinsky does. It also includes notes on the stories and an introduction.
