NEW Online-Only Submission Process

As of February 1, Halifax, Nova Scotia’s Nimbus Publishing & Vagrant Press will move to an online-only submissions process, using the Submittable platform. Prospective writers can find the Nimbus Submittable page through a banner link on the Nimbus website (www.nimbus.ca) or by visiting www.nimbuspublishing.submittable.com. Writers will then follow a few simple prompts to upload their submission. Once uploaded, writers will receive a confirmation email of receipt, and, once reviewed, whether the manuscript was accepted or declined.

Currently, accepted files include .doc, .docx, and PDF. There are separate submissions forms for Nimbus and its adult fiction imprint, Vagrant Press. As always, writers are asked to familiarize themselves with the Nimbus & Vagrant catalogue to ensure the publishing house is a good fit, before making a submission.

Managing Editor Whitney Moran is excited to roll out this new initiative: “It will save us countless human resources hours,” she says. “Our current process, of receiving and logging and responding to over five hundred submissions annually really takes a toll on our editorial team. Submittable will help us streamline our workflow and stay organized. Best of all, it gives the prospective author regular updates as the submission moves through the process.” The initiative also dovetails with Nimbus’s commitment to green publishing practices: “We’re looking forward to decreasing our carbon footprint substantially, which is a win for everyone,” says General Manager Terrilee Bulger.

There will be a grace period until March 1, inclusive, in which Nimbus will continue to accept snail-mailed submissions. Once this period has elapsed, mailed submissions will be recycled upon delivery. Please note, Nimbus will no longer be accepting in-person submissions except in pre-approved circumstances of an accessibility nature.
