This is a story about the life of a miner, focusing on Buchans, with comparisons to other Newfoundland and Labrador mining communities. It explains how a miner goes about the various mining jobs, from mucking ore, to drilling, to being a shift-boss, and the many other jobs in between. It also discusses the hazards and dangers associated with mining – the falls of ground, the dust, the gas, moving machinery, dynamite, etc.
