However, one December night in 1843, the axe falls: Marie-Rose has contracted leprosy. The formidable illness brings fear, shame, and suffering with it, and Marie-Rose’s life gets upended. Sent into exile on Becs-Scies Island, the young Acadian watches her happiness fly away and begins her long descent to rock bottom. Marie-Rose will have nothing but the unwavering hope of seeing her loved ones again to bravely confront her destiny.

Victor Robichaud

Victor Robichaud was born in the little picturesque town of Neguac, or, more precisely, in Rivière-des-Caches. His passion for literary arts and history began in childhood. During his years as a family doctor and adjunct professor in the faculty of medicine at the University of Sherbrooke, Dr. Robichaud recognized the importance of humanism in medical professions. He has always looked to integrate the arts, narration, and poetry into his teaching of future doctors. Since his retirement, he has returned to his hometown, the setting of his first youth novel, La bottine de Rivière-des-Caches.
Gabrielle Morrisseau

After her studies in media and visual arts at the University of Quebec in Montreal, in 2017, Gabrielle Morrisseau decided to pair her practice with illustration to satiate her creative urges. She works particularly in watercolour, drawing, embroidery, and writing. Through her practice, she likes exploring emotions and the sensitivity of words. She aspires to make the intangibility of words visible by reflecting a gentle and nebulous feeling that will cradle young and old.
